Our Values
At Northshore we believe our values are vital because they point to the distinct characteristics that we believe God is building into us as a unique church body.
As we seek to live as Jesus lived, and obey Jesus as He obeyed the Father, we need to be guided by values that affect every part of our lives – hearts that love Jesus and are motivated to become more and more like Him, heads that are engaged in knowing Jesus, His mysteries and wisdom, and hands at work serving the name of Jesus proclaiming practical sermons of the gracious love of God.
We seek to inhabit and live out the mindsets as modelled by Jesus in Matthew Chapter 9.
1. Kingdom Minded – not legalistically minded
Matthew 9:1-8
…Jesus said, “…Which is easier: to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up and walk’? But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”
We will be a Kingdom minded people, not a people inhibited by the rules, expectations and fear of man – but a people that live according to Jesus’ Kingdom agenda of healing, forgiveness and wholeness.
2. Mission Minded – not inwardly minded
Matthew 9:9-13
Jesus … saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him.
We will be a people that embraces the call of Jesus to “Follow me”, meaning that we follow Christ and live lives that are intentional about leading others around us to know Christ to follow him also.
3. Eternity Minded – not reactionary minded
Matthew 9:14-17
Jesus answered, …The time will come… Neither do men pour new wine into old wineskins.
We will be a people that live with eternity in mind, valuing the timeless truth of Jesus and His message, and prioritising God and His agenda over any fads, trends or reactionary thinking.
4. Jesus/ Faith Minded – not cynically minded
Matthew 9:18-34
…the blind men came to him, and he asked them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?” “Yes, Lord,” they replied. Then he touched their eyes and said, “According to your faith will it be done to you”
We will be a people that live by Faith, in daily, obedient response to God’s Word, where the miraculous and supernatural happen as a response to Jesus in Faith.
5. Globally Community Minded – not self minded
Matthew 9:35-38
Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them…
We will be a people committed to taking the life changing gospel of Jesus Christ beyond just our own fellowship and into different geographic and demographic regions, and wherever there are crowds that need Jesus.
